3CB Media SITREP 2016

While the year is not exactly over, I think it is time enough to look back at the year from a media perspective. Nobody is reading forums during the holidays anyway. :) I am personally more busy with the Youtube Channel and so I hope Vex will also shed some light on how we are doing on Twitter. I will also try to put a "best of 2016" video together at the end of the year and this is usually pretty time intensive.

3CB Youtube Channel
The channel is doing fine and statistic wise it has improved on all levels. I checked out our statistics compared to 2015, which was so far the best year for the channel. So all these statistics are in relation to 2015.

Quote:
Value: 2015 > 2016 - raise in percentage
Playing Time:  9.116 Minutes > 60.842 Minutes - +567%
• Average playing time per video: 1.46 Minutes > 2.53 Minutes - +73%
Views: 5.152 > 21.106 -  +309%
Positive Ratings: 86 362 - +320%
Negative Ratings: 4 34 - +750%
Comments*: 19 802 - +4121%
Shared: 13 100 - +669%
Subscriptions: 148 247 - +66%
*includes chat messages during streams

The reason for these improvements are due to continued change in the length videos have that we put on the channel. We started to upload shorter videos at the end of 2015 and have kept doing so in 2016. Since this seems to work pretty well, we will continue to do so in 2017. We will try to refine our content and the presentation in 2017. One example is that I will try to make video thumbnail for YouTube more consistent and also add visual labels to them.

We can always use more people recording and editing videos and we will try to offer more and better information on how people can record and edit videos for the channel.

We only did two of them so far, but they seem to run well in terms of participation, material and recognition. So we have people handing in images that are very nice and we also get some positive feedback from players, communities and Bohemia Interactive.

So from my side, I think 2016 was a good year.

Nice work MeFirst! Figures look good, and I'm enjoying putting my videos together. Looking to get even better next year!

By the way, the top video of 2016 in terms of people watching it was:

There is no war to end all wars.

For me, and it was the videos that got me to 3CB, I preferred the stream type videos as they set the context. Maybe some narrative either in the video or on the YouTube channel - maybe an edited mission brief - or both?

The example above IS excellent, I must say, as it does implicitly add some narrative in the comms, though you don't really understand the who, why, where.

Regardless of that, I would like to say thank you for all your efforts with the vids. I for one, love them all. BTW, I would love to record, but barely have enough horse power to play!

Yeah, Id agree that the longer stream type videos are definitely good to watch.

I think the key is having a balance of both the short snappy almost advertisement type of video, to pull people in, then the longer stream type videos for people to really get a feel for how we play. (I'm mostly talking in terms of recruitment here as opposed to building a channel audience if that makes sense)

Yes, I agree, and nobody has time for the GameDev Byrne's style operational narratives, though interestingly (before his sojourn), he was moving more to streams AND edited (to less fidelity) videos. I loved his videos, though didn't think I would love the unit, because of them :)

(I reedited my post as it didn't really show my appreciation, which is HUGE)

Statistic wise the video is a kind of "oddity" since it is the only video above 5 minutes that people have really watched completely and that is also now a mod or another showcase.

PS: How do you survive that motion blur cud?

Ah weird, guessing it hits the spot somehow haha.
And I've always had the motion blur on, never thought anything of it. is it really noticeable?
