Hi dog, I'm not sure you need a Steam copy to play MP. Once we get a server up and running (soon comrades, soon), it will be on Arma 3 (using the Iron Front content) so you'll be able to join servers as you would regularly. You only need the Iron Front data so that Arma 3 can you use it as an addon.

We have a server we just couldn't get it to work the last time we tried. I now know that the iron front missions need to be renamed to .pbo that should fix it. @goodson
