SSD Issue

Hello Guys,

Hoping some of you tech savvy people could help me out.

Essentially, every time I boot my PC, it says that is unable to find boot device blah blah blah. You can view the error below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHcHVtnDYaU

Below I will explain the step's I've taken so far.

  1. Boot PC and got the BIOS up via the Del key.
  2. Checked to see if my PC was booting in AHCI. (It was already in this mode)
  3. Checked to see if my Boot Sequence detected my SSD. (My boot sequence was as followed: 1 - CD Drive, 2 - HDD, 3 - Boot Agent) (My M.2 SSD wasn't even in the boot sequence)
  4. I then reset my BIOS to the last known good config. (And that's where things get worse)
I can tell from step 3 that my BIOS isn't detecting my SSD. At step 4, I reset my BIOS to the last known good config. When I tried to boot again, I got a similar boot message which was:
"Reboot and Select proper Boot Device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key"

From all these steps, I believe that my SSD is fried.

Now, I had exactly the same issue, same error, same symptoms in May. I sent off my PC to DinoPC and they replaced the faulty SSD with another SSD. My warranty has probably expired from now, do you think they would replace it still as it's only just 6 months old?

No harm in asking. Fail that check out scan.co.uk for a SSD of your having problems with m.2 that would be my solution however others may have better help. I'll look it up and get back to you mate can you tell us what m.2 it is? I.e. Brand model?See if it's something that happens to others?

ok the following sounds strange but it can help:

if you tried everything else out and you consider your ssd as dead, disassemble your ssd that you only have the board with the chips.
preheat your oven to around 190° C  and put the ssd in for ~8 minutes (not longer than 10). (leave it to cool down after you put it out.... its hot...)
(might be a good idea to create some balls of tin foil and put it under, so that the board does not touch any surface in the oven directly)

this trick can be used when the problem comes from broken/cold soldering points.

i already fixed 1 gpu, and 5 sdcards with this mehtod (didnt had luck with my broken ssd)

PS: you can fix some problems of hdds when you put them into a freezer :D

It should be mentioned that this will most certainly void your warranty, so only attempt it if you can't RMA :P

Well, I got a two year warranty from DinoPC on labour and parts. Now, they replaced my SSD in May this year, so, it's still covered under UK law, that's how I screwed over Apple.

That was from November 2014, the two year warranty.
