The next step in computer design and engineering?

Hello All,

Just looking through the newest discoveries in science and found this article which was rather interesting.

Article: Science Alert - New Material

To summaries the article, they have basically found a material that doesn't output heat but still conducts electricity.

One of the biggest issues in computer design from what I understand, is thermal factors. If you look at a timeline of GPU's, you'll see that over time there has been a growing focus on minimising heat within components. Although this material appears to be exspensive from brief research, if this doesn't produce thermal energy, then could this be the next big (exspensive) thing in computer technology? If these claims are true, I predict it will be.

This could improve performance across components massively.

Would a similar phenomenon not occur in carbon nanowires? If the electron movement is what is generating the heat? Perhaps one of our resident physicists could shed some light?

Yes the concept has been around for several years

The Laws of Thermodynamics will take a giant s**t on this at some point. They always do.

Agreed :D

I've never heard of nano wires before... just had a read up and was quite interesting.
