To be honest you just need to look up/down left/right. Tilt, lean and zoom are a bit much for me.

I disabled the zoom, because I dont dont think getting closer to the monitor every time you want to zoom in is a good think. I sometimes use the incremental leaning, but using the normal lean is working better in most cases. :)

I too disabled zoom. Plus a bigger dead zone. Over time the dead zone has been reduced. Practise I guess

Inb4 irrational hate against a certain ArmA player. :)

I basically use the TrackIR profile from dslysecxi

I started with his profile. It was very good and then just tweaked it to suit. Mine is now quite different interestingly. I guess different muscle memory, distance from screen etc

I used FaceTrackNoIR before and leaning & zooming was a pain...
Good to know that its not a common thing, even with trackir.

Rudder pedals actually do a better job than trackir for leaning. It is more precise since you can control the lean amount by using your foot. I do like the trackir lean but I found myself rarely using it.

the tobii X is just eyetracking and is slightly diffrent from the headtracking feeling you get from trackir or similar solutions...
(head tracking is more suitable for playing games like arma, eyetracking on other hand is great for controlling your windows)

anyways the new tobii (Eye Tracker 4C) has eye and headtracking... not sure how they solved the headtracking part but might worth a look now...
tobii is going to be the default "tracking" solution for triple A titles and will be used as gimmicks in laptops and co in the future...

im still glad i bought the trackir ;)

DevilDogGamer got it summed up right. Every time you look somewhere, your head in game/view moves.

Check ammo, view moves.
Check GPS, view moves
Look at watch, view moves

It's like gluing your eyeballs to your skull and putting a neck brace on. You have to move your whole body to look at anything.

It would be good for flightsims in conjunction with head tracking where the eye tracking moves the cursor for toggling switches.

The other downside is that the tobii doesn't work in the dark as it needs to see your eyes.
