Nah... 1500m is all you need. When do we EVER engage out past 1000m. Honestly never happens. Makes a huge difference to keep it low. I get 80-120fps on an empty server... Glorious, then it normally settled on about 40 45 depending on map and player count once it gets busy. I'm running at 200% over sample remember so 40+ frames at 4K is more than acceptable to play I reckon.

1500 is what works pretty well for ground and most air units. Depending on the role in a air unit it can be worth going up to 2000m. Remember that in air units you also have to work with a angle.

Well cpu is cpu for arms. It only uses 1 core properly so whether you have 2 or 16 makes 0 difference it's clock speed really.

@Clyde.
Yeah, fixed wing is a completly different leauge, I dont like fixed wing in ArmA 3 and so I always forget to think about it. 1500 - 2000m was referring to helos.

I'm at 4.5Ghz. Pretty much all you can get on a 24/7 OC 5960X. I could try and max out less cores, but it's not worth is for the hassle to get another 200Mhz

20fps is really bad though, once it drops a few lower than that it's unplayable to the point that I have to leave. 2500 is also around the minimum view distance needed for infantry.

thats a pretty standard fps for me

Different graphical setting are bound to either the CPU or GPU depending on the level. Generally, lower levels are set to be handled by the CPU. Of course, the CPU is stressed enough as it is in ArmA so you need to take as much strain off as possible by sending stuff to the GPU.

A lot of people think, that if they have a crap rig, they will get better performance by lowering the settings which the inverse is true. Increasing the settings tends to increase performance.

I had this issue on a crappy AMD quad core, 4 Gig DDR2 and a 6850 GPU. Running on low I was getting 10-15 at best. Running on medium to high I was getting 20-25 and sometimes 40.

Now I'm running everything on Ultra and you can bet your bottom dollar that if I put it all on low I will see a massive performance drop as the CPU gets flooded with more work.

I know this, I think it's most stuff except for the render distance. For example shadows should either be turned off or on the max setting to ensure the CPU doesn't handle it.
There was a nifty guide somewhere that the OP may find useful, I'll have a look

This one?
