Sleighbells mission

I noticed in Mefirst's images that the sky is not overcast in the Sleighbells mission.

Did anyone jump in as Zeus and reset the weather?

If so, please don't.  It's deliberately set as overcast, so the various snow effects blend correctly.

rgr tht .. I time accelerated today in the morning, because it was night time. And then made it 'clear weather' / 'bright day' to have something nice to look at, and it looked quite awesome good work done there

... the 'snow effecets' blends where not recogniseable ... you can see that there was 'snow / weather change' requarding positions, and we were traveling via truck so ~80kmph, i'll quess it only creates a problem when you traveling faster then that, via zeus eagle / air ..

.. i'll reassigned the mission again now to have 'the designer intended weather'

cheers moeses

The snow storm changes from no snow to really heavy snow over a changeable time period. As it does so, visibility is decreased due to encroaching fog (which has a ceiling height) and gust-driven wisps of snow. If the sky is not specially set to overcast via script (so that you also get no rain), the storm will look odd when you have a bright blue sky with sun, but a driving blizzard and fog.

That is why it needs to be set as it is upon mission start.

Time acceleration will not be a problem with the snow effects.

Although the bright sky looks nice, when the snow storm hits it looks out of place.  Also as part of the snowstorn effect is a shifting mist that obscures vision.  When its very bright (ie not overcast) it creates a weird halo effect, that looks crap.  But fully overcast it works well and creates the sense of being in a blizzard.

I've got to say thanks to Havok for flying me back to FOB after a mission. The controls on the 'copter went completely and he made an interim landing on the way back :). Does the weather create ice on the control surfaces/props?

My head is on a swivel, I just left the WD-40 at home.

I don't think so but I think heavy wind has a impact on flying.

I don't think it has anything to do with the mission. We've experienced the same strange lack of control / drop of engine power in both our helicopters and the corresponding vanilla helicopters since the update yesterday. Our Wildcat uses the AAF Hellcat flight model, and our Merlin uses the AAF Mowhawk one. The Mowhawk now flies really oddly. In our tests last night, the pilots were reporting that it now handles more like a Littlebird in both Standard and Advanced Flight Model.

Great feedback, and therefore greater flying from Havok, thanks.

Gonna put this one in here.

We had a kind of bad experience with enemy fast air today. It ended it being somewhat entertaining, but I think it is still a problem. The issue is that it is extremely hard to fight enemy fast air on this map. This is caused by the visibility on the map, which makes it extremely hard to engage fast air with helicopters or launchers. We also do not have a fast air available, but I think a human pilot would still have issues dealing with it. Another thing is that it feels a bit weird, when enemy fast air is doing very effective attacks on you in those weather conditions. I think this is out of balance, compared to the challenge the visibility causes for infantry and especially pilots.

So yeah, enemy fast air doesn't seem to work that well in the mission.

Thanks, Mefirst.  We'll look at the fast air.

We've also received some feedback on the snowstorms, with a suggestion to make the transitions a little slower and the storms a little longer, to enable people to take full tactical advantage of the weather.
